Structural Editing
|
Structural editing involves possible rewriting and restructuring at the same time as assessing and standardising grammar, spelling, capitalisation, punctuation, hyphenation and overall consistency. I start the process of structural editing by looking at who will read and use your document and why, and establishing whether the information is complete or whether the text needs any:
I then provide an assessment with recommendations to agree on the amount and level of structural editing you need with a quotation for costs. The text is then edited to make sure: · the language and form are right for the audience · there is a logical flow and balanced discussion · information and arguments are presented clearly and unambiguously · the phrasing is clear and concise with no repetition or contradictions · there is consistency in tone and style retaining the author’s voice · presentation is simple and effective · titles and headings are accurate · tables, figures, illustrations and images are clear and captioned · material in tables and figures is accurate · appropriate referencing is included · symbols, abbreviations and terms are explained. |
